The federation has decided to give clarification following what it
regarded as some misleading statements on the coordination and
participation of local clubs in continental competitions, especially the
participation of Yanga in the Confederation Cup for the 2015/2016
season. Recently, a tug of war emerged between TFF and Yanga concerning the
actual date for the Confederation Cup group match between the Jangwani
Street club and Congolese side TP Mazembe.
As the federation announced that the match day will be Tuesday at the
National Stadium in Dar es Salaam in accordance with Confederation of
African Football (CAF) fixture, Yanga come forward saying they have the
mandate to select the match date and they had chosen Wednesday as their
match day. However, the federation Information Officer, Alfred Lucas, insisted
that the match day stands on June 28 as per CAF directive, explaining
further that Yanga had the right to pick the date of the game early but
the club failed to do so before the deadline, so CAF decided on the
matter. Apart from that, Lucas said on April 21, this year , CAF released a
document to the teams that were lined up to contest for qualification to
the groups phase for CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup,
demanding them to send the names of their officials who will attend a
workshop on how to coordinate those matches. He said further that the clubs were also required to send copies of
passports of their officials - team manager, physician and information
officer, who were to attend the vital workshop but Yanga ignored despite
being reminded several times by the federation. “Yanga missed the full sponsored workshop which aimed to discuss
issues of coordination, technical, warrant and competition regulations
and what is happening now is the consequence of ignoring participation
of the workshop, which could otherwise, enlighten them on various issues
concerning the CAF tournaments,” said Lucas. In his statement released yesterday, Lucas said that all complaints
raised by Yanga through their Head of Information and Communications,
Jerry Muro are the results of ignoring the workshop, which could answer
all his questions and doubts. “It is unfathomed that due to the administrative deficiencies within
the club’s secretariat the blame is being directed to TFF and this is
because the club is releasing misleading information,” complained Lucas. However, despite all the weaknesses, Lucas said TFF will continue
working and helping all clubs and providing required knowledge
concerning various competitions to avoid such nuisance to reoccur. However, TFF will have declared that it won’t hesitate to take
disciplinary measures to any club Information Officer who will tarnish
the federation image aiming at clubs Administrative inefficiencies. Yanga sent their request to CAF via TFF to push forward their game
from Tuesday to Wednesday and also the kick off time from 16:00 to
19:30, however their request was turned down. Meanwhile, former CAF Champions Leagues champion’s Congolese side TP
Mazembe are expected to jet in the country tomorrow for their CAF
Confederation Cup group stage match against Young Africans on Tuesday at
the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam. The continental soccer giants Mazembe, who despite having a major
blow following their boss Moise Katumbi sentenced to a 36 months in
prison for the illegal purchase of a flat in the eastern city of
Lubumbashi plus a $6m (£4.1m) fine in addition, are looking forward to
be at their best ahead of the Tuesday game. Mazembe who are unbeaten in 18 matches in the Congolese topflight
league in the 2015/16 season, have promised to fight by all means to
ensure they maintain their winning form in the local league and
Confederation Cup. The team will jet in with a 32 man contingent, while their hosts
Yanga were expected to jet back yesterday night from Antalya, Turkey,
where they were sharpening their claws ready to stun the continental’s
giants. The Congolese giants based in Lubumbashi kicked off their group stage
campaigns in a high note by defeating Ghanaian side Medeama 3-1 in
Lubumbashi. They are coming to Dar es Salaam to face wounded Yanga, who
lost its opener 1-0 in Algeria against MO Bejaia. Tanzania ‘s, Taifa Stars striker Thomas Ulimwengu is expected to lead
his teammates Rainford Kalaba, Adama Traore and Deo Kanda to demolish
their hosts, while Yanga will depend on Zimbabwean striker Donald Ngoma
and newly signed Zambian striker Obrey Chirwa. The 22-year old Chirwa, who signed for the record league champions
from FC Platinum in Zimbabwe last week for $100 000, has been cleared by
CAF to feature in the continental fixture and has received his work
permit. Chirwa is expected to provide a spark for Hans van Pluijm’s side. To
achieve this Chirwa will hope for yet another unequivocal link up with
his former FC Platinum teammate in Ngoma, a Zimbabwean forward who found
the back of the net 17 times to inspire Yanga to their record 25th
league title last season. Burundian striker Amiss Tambwe is suspended.
